Introducing Patterns

Posted on 15th August 2022

OUR NEW ORDER

While our original designs were all standalone scenes, our lifelong fascination with repeat patterns was always going to find its way into our range at some point. And lo and behold, it now has with our first pattern design – Honeycomb Bee.

Inspired by geometric, maximalist design, with heavy classical / renaissance overtones, the recurring motif depicts two bees side by side, connected by a honeycomb of branches, leaves and flowers. It’s our paean to nature’s architecture, a lush organic foliage of golds and greens, off-set by a touch of signature Mancunian yellow and black.

You can find Honeycomb Bee on two brand new homeware products, this cosy cotton (it had to be cotton) cushion and this tote, but watch this space because more pattern designs are in the pipeline.

The next pattern set to come off the loom is Rosa Renatus, your invitation to wander into a disquieting English garden. With a range of colourways in the offing (including the ‘Electric Blue’, shown here) it’s our post-modern take on a classical theme that draws inspiration from all kinds of sources, (not least Peter Saville’s classic cover design for New Order’s Power, Corruption & Lies).

The rose is a potent symbol of the romantic move away from functionalism, towards dancing and rebirth (‘renatus’ translates as ‘born again’). Sit with ours a while and you’ll be taken on a flowing, heady journey of forms as the flower blossoms and takes shape. All things considered, it’s a flower that carries more mythology and symbolic currency than seems possible – making it a natural choice for our wandering creative eye.

Both Honeycomb Bee and Rosa Renatus will soon be available on a wide range of homeware products, as well as to buy as a fabric by the square metre for your own projects.
