How The Sculpts Took Shape

Brainchild of illustrator and architect Richard Bennett, The Sculpts was founded in 2020. What began as a handful of illustrative tile designs quickly turned into a distinctive range. Drawing inspiration from the patterns, spaces, shapes and designs we encounter every day, we continue to explore new projects and products, including collaborations with some of Manchester’s best-known artistic institutions.

Our Work

Building on the original Manchester Tile and Northern Alphabet Tiles series, The Sculpts is also hive to an illustrious swarm of hand-drawn Worker Bees – those unmistakable symbols of Manchester and paragons of natural ingenuity. Applied to a ceramics, prints, textiles, and other forms, each of our illustrations is alive with industry, individuality, and intrigue to create work that invites the mind and eye to wander. With sustainability front of mind, each piece is an opportunity to explore new perspectives and possibilities within the living spaces we curate and inhabit.

“If mutability is the definition of Manchester, Art can tell the story of that change and help to define its future.”

Richard Bennett

Manchester Born and Bred

Our heart, heritage and home are in Manchester and everything we make is saturated with the characteristic individualism and revolutionary heritage of Cottonopolis, the city that once warehoused the world.

Like many others, it’s engrained in who we are and the art we make. Manchester has always been a melting pot of culture, style, music, art and entrepreneurial energy – thoroughly anti-hierarchical and impossible to pin down.

We’ve poured our fascination with these eclectic qualities into artworks that – just like the itself city – are striving to challenge the norm.
