The Manchester Tiles & – 80s Bands

We wanted to do a Manchester bands tile, but there were just too many to fit onto 6 inches square. So we’ve created a collage of the biggest Manchester bands of the 1980s — a ceramic tile celebrating the legendary era that defined the city’s music scene. They’re still jostling for space around the ampersand, but all the gang’s here from the Stone Roses to the Inspiral Carpets. These are the faces that created some of the most innovative music of the era, embracing the electronic revolution and showing that the city’s creative response will always show the way forward.

Each 80s & Tile is designed in Manchester, hand-rolled and glazed in the UK’s ceramic heartland of Stoke-on-Trent, before returning north for local firing. The result is a finely crafted ceramic tile that feels both rooted and modern — a distinctive decorative piece celebrating Manchester’s identity.
