The Manchester Tiles Letter E – Exchange Theatre
£35.00
This Manchester Exchange Theatre tile captures perhaps the most original and exciting repurposing of the fabric of the city. In its heyday, Manchester’s Royal Exchange’s central trading hall was called the largest room in the world. Today, suspended by the pillars supporting the hall’s central dome, the alien globe-like structure houses an 800-seat theatre-in-the-round: the Royal Exchange Theatre company’s main performance space.
Rendered in our distinctive pen and ink style, the Manchester Exchange Theatre tile design depicts this vast theatrical space, made all the more empty by the presence of Vladimir and Estragon as they continue their never-ending wait for Godot.
Each E Tile is designed here in Manchester then hand-rolled in the UK’s ceramic heartland Stoke-on-Trent, before returning for firing in local kilns. A fitting end for a quintessentially Mancunian statement.
