The Manchester Tiles Letter K – King Street

£35.00

This Manchester tile Letter K brings King Street to life with intricate detail borrowed from another famous illustrated Manchester A to Z – ‘A Manchester Alphabet’ by Roger Oldham from 1906.

His K for King Street is just gorgeous, looking out up the slope of the iconic street. We’ve paid tribute to that page here by inviting the family Roger drew to reappear outside a bakery window, gazing at the treats inside, though actually didn’t know it existed till a customer told us fairly recently.

King Street began life in the 17th Century, and over time attracted a fairly niche crowd in the form of banks and up-market retail spots. So as you might expect, the architecture is pretty impressive. It has 11 listed Grade II buildings, two listed Grade II* and one Grade I – and we’ve celebrated our favourites in the Manchester tile Letter K seen through the bakery window glass.

Each K Tile is designed here in Manchester, then hand-rolled and glazed in the UK’s ceramic heartland Stoke-on-Trent, before returning for artwork firing in local kilns. A fitting end for a quintessentially Mancunian statement.
